Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #37 Something Old Something New | You're the Cream to my Coffee

by - Wednesday, September 26, 2018

This is the first card I made for the Something Old, Something New challenge. It took me a long time but I am so happy with it!

Here's how I made it:

I first stamped the squarish mug as I wanted this to be in the front, then I stamped it onto a sticky note and masked the mug and then stamped the round mug to the side of it. This brought the second mug to the back.

I took the milk carton from Milk and Cookies and masked off the word MILK with some sticky note when I went to ink, and I removed it when I went to stamp it and it gave me a blank space! I found out the word Cream (from Thanks A Latte) fit perfectly inside that blank part. Then I drew cream pouring out of the carton and into the mug.

This is where I made a mistake. I should have drawn the liquid pouring out and masked it before stamping the second mug. That way, I wouldn't have had the mug rim showing in the pouring cream. But I saved it by erasing it with a sand eraser. It was difficult because it was a lot of ink; it removed the ink but made that part very textured. In the end, I liked it. It added sloshy movement.

Next,  I drew subway tiles on the back of the card and then went over it with a black fine liner.

I cut out a window on the left and turned that window into a shaker element. I created a scene behind this window with a forest border. The forest and sky were just pieces of cardstock coloured with copics. I added white dots for snow and some fine glitter and clear seed beads for the shaker parts. Sequins would of have been too large.

I coloured the mugs in with my copics, added grey countertops and gave the tiles some depth with light grey marker. I took the whipped  cream and turned into meringue kisses. Peppermint meringue kisses.

I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment You're the Cream to my Coffee onto black card and cut it down into strips and adhered it onto the bottom right.  Lastly, I backed the panel onto a top folding black card base.

This is the shaker in action:

Whilst creating this card, I kept envisioning my dream kitchen. I really love subway tiles with black grout! It's just so beautiful I think.

Well, thank you for stepping into my dream kitchen LOL! What's your favourite kitchen backsplash?
