Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #36 Fall Mood Board | Pie

The next challenge is here!!! and it's a fall themed one! yayy!

Head over to the challenge site to see all the creativity being made; click the photo.

I made a card for my sister and I want to share it with the challenge. She has just graduated in Maths so I thought PIE! Pie is comfort, pie is fall, pi is 3.14159265359.......

To make the pie, I die-cut out the biggest circle from the Fancy Scalloped Circle set, a plain circle that is slightly smaller and 10 banners from Extra Sentiment banner die all from kraft card.
Next, using Rusty Hinge distress ink, I inked up all the pieces to give it a golden brown glow for the crust.

For the pie base, I took my spectrum noirs in berry shades and with the lightest DR1, I coloured in the inner circle, then with DR5 and DR7, I added dots by pressing down on the marker to form the perfect circle. I love how this made it look like pie filling.

With a white gel pen, I wrote a joke that I found on the internet; such a funny one. I must say I tried stamping with white Staz-on ink but it was not working out all hence why it looks a bit cloudy because I had to cover it with more alcohol ink to hide the mistakes.

Now for the basketweave pie lid:

I laid 5 strips vertically onto the plain circle and glued just 1/8 - 1/4" of the top end down. This helped to keep the strips in place whilst I did the weaving. (You could just tape it down, if you wanted.)
I then weaved in the five remaining pieces horizontally, one at a time. (So if you imagined each vertical strip was numbered 1 - 5, I put my horizontal strips over the first vertical strip, under the second, over the third, under the fourth, and over the fifth).

Heres a photo I found online to show you a closer look:
The Painted Rabbit

As I weaved, I added glue under each strip, adhering it to the plain circle. That holds it secure, so the weaving doesn't unravel. Once I finished weaving and gluing, I added acrylic blocks to hold down the strips until I was sure the glue had dried. I then trimmed the excess off from around my circle. Using the berry coloured markers, I added "berry juice" in between the gaps to make it look like as if the filling was oozing out of the pie. (Thank you for helping me explain this part, Sarah!)

Then I scored a 1/4 of an inch off the circle to make it into a flap. I added strong tape to the back of the flap and glued it to the pie base.
I took some white cardstock and die-cut the word congrats (from Big Scripty Words) twice and adhered that on top of the pie lid. The pie is now complete.

onto the background:

I took a cardstock with grid markings and stamped the numbers of PI which is 3.14159265359 in Hippo ink. I wanted some faint so I did second generation stamping.

I cut this down to 5 x 6 and glued it onto a top folding 5 x 7 kraft card base. I adhered the pie onto the front and centre of the card panel and this, friends, is my card finished.
