Ahoy pirate girl tote bag
Ahoy there!
Since Neat and Tangled showed us their sneak peak for March, I was hooked ! (see what I did there?) I knew I had to have the Yo Ho Ho stamp set as the images were just too cute to pass on:
...right?
I had an idea in mind for a cute tote bag using Lawn Fawn's Tote Bag die and shiver me timbers - I must say, it turned out wonderful!
I began by die-cutting the tote bag from white card (I used 260gsm card from Poundland -yes it cost me a £1)
Before assembling the bag, I used this anchor stencil to emboss the whole front and back with Hero Arts white embossing powder.
I made sure to tape the stencil down so then when I pounced the embossing ink on to it, it did not move. It came out like this:
My idea was to have an island look where sky/sea meets sand and to get this look I used blending technique with Distress Inks.
Starting from the bottom; I blended Fossilized Amber up towards halfway; heavy at the bottom and lightening as I go up. To add shading and to darken it a little more, I used Brushed Corduroy.
For the sky/sea, I used Salty Ocean and not going to lie, for cardstock I bought from Poundland; it blended very well, very smooth.
On to the images, I used the Neenah Solar white card to stamp the images on and coloured them in using spectrum noirs. My relationship with my spectrum noirs is on and off; in fact, I avoid colouring with them because I never get the blending right.
UNTIL I brought out the packets they came in. Seeing the numbers and colours helped me so much and for the first time in forever, I actually love how it turned out.
To complete everything, I stamped the sentiment "AHOY" with a MISTI tool knowing that there was a lot of texture from the embossing, I would need to re-stamp a few times.
I drew some lines on the ship with a fine pen to mimic wood grain.
Glossy-accented the sails and sword and tied red and white twine to close the bag.
I just wish I had gold chocolate coins to go with the whole pirate look - there's always next time.
I hope you liked this and thank you for stopping by!
