Every party I throw, I always tie in the food so that it matches the theme of that party ee.gee. (e.g) the ice-queen themed party I threw for my housewarming, we had chocolate snowballs or the surprise smart cookie graduation party we did for my sister, we ate...yes you guessed it...milk and cookies!
For the Neat and Tangled party challenge ( click here to check out that post) my theme for this party was camping, I turned to my trusty friend Pinterest to get ideas for what kind of food people have at camping; I've never been you see - maybe virtually, like watching it in a movie. Everyone knows you have marshmallows but I needed more.
There I found this:

it was perfect!
Only I didn't make a caramel one, instead:
I made a devil's food chocolate cupcake filled with ooey gooey marshmallow fluff, topped with oreo soil and vanilla frosting flames and chocolate logs. Yeah, that is too long a recipe title.
but anyways here's how I made it:
ingredients | makes 24 cupcakes
- 1 box of Betty Crockers' Devil food cake mix
- 1 tub of marshmallow fluff (I found mine at Sainsburys)
- chocolate spread of any kind
- 1 packet of "oreos", crushed to soil-like consistency (in Iceland they have a non-branded one which is way cheaper)
- packet of Twirl (or you can use Flakes)
- 2x 250g tubs of vanilla frosting ( I got it from Poundland)
- orange and yellow food colouring
method |
1. make the cupcakes following the instructions at the back of the box.
it told us to go to the website and adjust the measurements for 9 cupcakes but I didn't want 9, so stick to the instructions for the cake.
2. once baked, leave cupcakes to cool.
3. take a piping bag, fit it with a filling piping tip ( it would have long nozzle) or cut out small holes from the centre of the cupcakes. Fill with marshmallow fluff.
4. Spread some chocolate spread to provide something sticky for the next step.
5. Take the oreo soil and dip the edges of the cupcake so you have soil all around the cupcake, leaving the middle empty. This is crucial to successful flame piping.
don't do this at home!
6. Colour the tubs of frosting; 1 yellow and 1 orange. go bright or go home! Then take a piping with a closed star tip and fill it with alternating colours of frosting.
7. Pipe a good dollop of frosting onto the centre of the cupcake. This will hold the logs in place.
I had soil on the centre and as I was piping, the soil was coming off with the frosting. Ended up being so fidgety! (please heed my advice in step 5)
8. Twirl has a smooth coating of chocolate on the outside; you can't see those gorgeous layers which we need for the logs.
Take a Twirl and cut it in 1/3s then cut each 1/3 in half. place 2 or 3 on to the flame being careful not to break the flaky structure.
Fill the gaps with more flames and bring some up over the logs as if it is engulfing and consuming it. (wow! that got deep so quickly)
9. time to display and eat!
